Longueteau Distillery: a family history

HISTORY

The Longueteau family is the oldest farmer-distillers in the world still in business, making rhum agricole.
As early as 1895, Henri Longueteau transformed the old sugar refinery into a distillery to produce rhum agricole, rum distilled directly from pure sugarcane juice.
Since then, 4 generations have succeeded one another in keeping with their GENTLEMAN LEGACY:
  • Love of the land
  • Respect for family know-how
  • Demanding product quality
  • A passion for agricultural rum
Today, for its brand of the same name, the Longueteau distillery is the only distillery in Guadeloupe 100% self-sufficient in sugar cane. Their plantations are located on the Domaine du Marquisat de Sainte-Marie, at the foot of the Soufrière massif. The farthest sugarcane field from the distillery is a 30-minute tractor ride away.

Thanks to the close proximity of the plots, organoleptic and bacterial properties are preserved, ensuring the best possible juice for the fermentation stage. The quality of the Longueteau distillery's production is the fruit of excellent mastery of all the trades that make up the world of rum.
With a very long maturation and reduction period in stainless steel tanks for optimal aromatic development, Longueteau rums are renowned for their powerful, highly complex character, making perfect pairings to sublimate the creations of the greatest chefs and bartenders.

Features:
Maison Longueteau grows two carefully selected varieties of sugar cane on its estate: red cane (R579) and blue cane (B69-566).
>> Red cane produces a very smooth, rounded rum, remarkable for its fruity and slightly floral notes.
>> Blue cane, with its freshness, has a livelier identity, with citrus and lemony notes.

The blending of these two cane varieties covers the widest possible range of tastes, with a precise, fine, chiselled profile and fine floral and fruity notes.

RUMS FROM THE LONGUETEAU DISTILLERY

At the heart of the Caribbean lies the Guadeloupe islands. Basse-Terre and Grande-Terre, like the wings of a butterfly, spread out between the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. Papillon® thus refers to the shape of Guadeloupe, where culture and tradition blend with landscapes of fine sandy beaches, blue lagoons and rainforest.

In 2019, Distillerie Longueteau created the new agricultural rum brand "Papillon", combining more modern codes with conviviality and sharing, where tradition remains an essential criterion.

Thanks to the historical know-how of the Longueteau family, the Papillon brand is today composed of a collection of three agricultural rums and a collection of Spicy (spiced spirits made with agricultural rum).

The Longueteau brand also offers several collections of agricultural rums and punches, whose top-of-the-range positioning is the result of the Maison Longueteau's historic know-how, and the particular attention paid to raw materials.
