ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION
The Murât house, with its 307 slaves, was the largest sugar cane plantation in Guadeloupe in 1839. Legend has it that it was Jeanne LABALLE, former student of fine arts, wife of Dominique MURAT, who designed the castle at the beginning of the 19th century.
The Ecomusée de Marie-Galante includes 5 emblematic sites of the island’s history: Habitation Murat presenting collections, Habitation Roussel-Trianon, the Dorot and Pirogue factories and the Mare au Punch site. Each of these sites allows you to discover the immense diversity of Marie-Galante’s heritage.
